"Strictly Business" is by far of the THEE best hip-hop albums ever made. EPMD (and then DJ K-La Boss) totally redefined sampling during that time and made an outstanding sample built masterpiece without using the TR-808 drum machine which was the "it" beat box of the moment. Man...I could listen to this album a million times over and it never gets stale. However....
In '93 on Christmas morning I was on my way to pick up my grrl and I was jamming to "You Gots To Chill". I wasn't paying attention, the light turned red, I slammed on my brakes, spun out, broke both of my axles, ended up on the sidewalk, and as the car came to a halt, all I heard was "...always calm under pressure, no need to act ill...listen when I tell ya boyee...you gots to chill". It was quite surreal honestly.
So every time I hear "You Gots To Chill", I reminisce of that Christmas morning and effectively loosing my only form of transportation....and laughing my ass off. Normally, I would have totally freaked out, but because EPMD told me that I had to chill...I did and life indeed went on....
So that's my EPMD story and why I think that they're so dope!
